Around The Grange
Large Attendance, Service, Winners, highlight Grange Sunday
  JUNE 13, 2010 --

A non-denominational Sunday Service, Talent and "A Number" Contest Run-offs, and a Lasagna Dinner by the Connecticut State Youth Grange rounded out a fun-filled day called "Grange Sunday" held June 13, 2010 at Goodwill Grange Hall in Glastonbury.

The well-attended event, hosted by the Connecticut State Grange, began at 11:00 AM with a non-denomination church service by State Grange Chaplain Amy Whitcomb. State Secretary and Historian Edith Schoell provided the musical accompaniment to the service.

A delicious Lasagna dinner with all the fixings was served by the Connecticut State Youth Grange to a full dining room of hungry attendees following the service.

The afternoon program began with State Lecturer Marge Bernhardt introducing the Talent and "A Number" competitions. There were a large number of entries competing from Granges and Pomonas across Connecticut.

The 1st Place Talent Contest winner was Robin Lee, representing New Haven County Pomona and Cheshire Grange who perfumed "Chattanooga Choo-Choo."

As the winner, Lee will compete in the Northeast Grange Regional Contest to be held at the Northeast Lecturers' Conference in Randolph Center, Vermont the first week in August.

The theme of the 2010 "A Number" entries was "The Great Outdoors." Numbers were judged on presentation, quality, audience appeal and originality.

The 1st Place "A Number" Contest Winners were members representing East Central Pomona and Manchester Grange, with a skit called "House Behind The House."

The Junior Granges, led by Junior Director Joan Perry, also held the judging for the Big E Contest. The theme was "Patriotic" with the item entered being no larger than 8x8 inches. Junior contest winners will be announced soon.
