May 2: 4th Annual Granby Grange Rubber Duck Race; Noon – 2:00 PM Granby Grange #5 held its March 8th meeting via Zoom with President Judy Doyle presiding and Connecticut State Grange Vice President Ted Powell attending as mentor.
Members reviewed progress on the ongoing renovation of the Granby Grange Hall, including new electrical outlets and continued planning for accessibility improvements and potential historic preservation grants. The Building Renovation Committee will continue evaluating needed upgrades.
Planning continues for several upcoming community events. The 4th Annual Granby Grange Rubber Duck Race will be held Saturday, May 2, at Noon at Salmon Brook Park (Pavilion 2). Lincoln Tech will again sponsor the event and assist with ticket sales.
Duck race tickets are available by contacting Dave Roberts at Granbydavidroberts@gmail.com or 860-469-5067. Tickets are $5 to sponsor one duck or $20 to sponsor five ducks. More than $1,700 in prizes and gift certificates will be awarded to the first twenty ducks to cross the finish line.
Members also voted to establish a special committee to coordinate the Grange’s participation in Granby’s upcoming 250th anniversary celebrations, including the Memorial Day and Fourth of July parades.
During the Lecturer’s program, Dawn Percoski presented an educational and entertaining program on the history of Daylight Saving Time and St. Patrick’s Day traditions.
The meeting concluded with members continuing their focus on community service projects, hall improvements, and upcoming public events.
