July 2, 2024 -- As of this writing, it’s Juneteenth Day. On this day the Union troops made it to Galveston, Texas to report that General Robert E. Lee surrendered Confederate troops at Appomattox, Virginia. The Civil War was over, and all slaves were free, as to the Emancipation Proclamation of 1863, or the 13th Amendment.
