| October 9, 2017 -- We are living in a time of great conflict and discord, both in this country, and throughout the world. There are wars in the Middle East, threat of war in the Far East, political, religious, and racial tensions both here and abroad, and conflict over uneven distribution of natural resources, such as water and arable land. We, as individuals, may feel helpless in the face of all this. But we, as Christian believers, should recognize the need to do whatever we can do to lessen these tensions, ease the pain and turmoil, and help to restore the brotherhood of Man. Our attempts to reach these goals should be by both word and action. Our words should be used to stir others to action, to comfort those that need comforting, and to admonish those who need admonishing. And do not forget the power of prayer, St. James tells us: “The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.”
The Women’s Prayer Circle, St. John’s Episcopal Church, North Guilford, developed A Prayer for Change to reflect the state of the world and how to bring God’s love to this time.
Loving God, You have made the whole of human life in your image;
Each one of us shaped in love.
Your goodness is ever-present within us all.
But, there is so much evil and pain in our world, it comes at us from every direction.
Teach us how to rediscover Your love within us, to use that love as a force for good.
Help us to turn our hearts toward the world in hope, praying for each other, regarding each other as treasure.
Join us all together in prayer, that we might be the light which darkness can never overcome. |
