Around The Grange
From the State Secretary: Notes from the State Office

By Todd Gelineau, CT State Grange Secretary

  DECEMBER 1, 2021 --

It’s been a while since I’ve written a State Grange Office article for the Granger. There’s been so much information to share in past issues, there just hasn’t been room.

With State Session behind us, there’s a number of reminders to bring up.

First, a resolution was adopted at this year’s session requiring Subordinate and Pomona Grange reports to be printed in the Journal of Proceedings beginning with the 2021 Journal. Letters will be going out to all Granges shortly, but please don’t wait. All we are asking for is a one or two paragraph summary of your Grange’s activities during the 2020-2021 Grange year.

In piecing together the history of the Connecticut State Grange, we have relied very heavily on the Grange reports printed in the Journal up to the 1960’s when they were eliminated due  to  the  cost of the extra pages required. The number of Granges is considerably smaller now, so this isn’t as much of an issue.

It doesn’t  really   matter   who in your Grange writes the report as long as it is accurate and has the blessing of your Grange to be submitted for the Journal. The difficulty with this project is the length of time it takes to get the majority of Granges to provide the many things we ask of them (i.e. payments, reports, etc.).

Please keep your reports short and simple but try to include the most important and interesting things that will be  of interest to people in the future looking at the history of your Grange.

These write-ups can be  sent to:  Connecticut State Grange, 100  Newfield  Road,  PO  Box  3, Winchester Center, CT 06094. They can also be emailed (preferred) to: Secretary@CTStateGrange.org. Please have your reports to me no later than January 30, 2022.  Any Granges not received by that date will not be included in the Journal. In September, Granges received their Dues Receipts books for 2022. We still have 15 or so Granges who have not returned payment to the State Grange.  Please do so as soon as possible so we can close the books on that program for this year.

I have received many notes and emails from Granges regarding the Lecturer’s reports. Dave Roberts of Riverton Grange is the new State Lecturer. He is very new and doesn’t have the advantage of Marge’s mentoring to get him started. We are getting him up to speed and I’m sure you will be hearing more from him directly. In the meantime, please send Lecturer’s reports to him at the following address: Dave Roberts, P.O. Box 155, Riverton, CT 06065.

I usually don’t use the Granger to request info from Granges, but it’s been extremely difficult getting Directory  information from Granges. The current State Directory is out of date with this year’s changes, so your cooperation in getting this information to me is extremely important. The following Granges are outstanding:   #1, 40, 75, 78, 87, 92, 96, 100, 110, 124, 147, 152, 153, 168, 173, 194, ML Pom. #15. It’s a shame to print a book with missing Grange information. Please, please, please send your info in immediately either by mail or email. My mailing and email addresses are listed above.

We have lots of Grange apparel available through the Grange Office. We have crewneck sweatshirts with the Grange emblem on the chest ($25). We have crimson colored short and long sleeve t-shirts ($10 & $15) with the Northeast Region logo for the 2023 convention in Buffalo, New York. We also have limited quantities of the limited-edition navy-blue t-shirts we produced at the end of 2020. If you are interested, please email me or call (860) 307-1522. If sizes are in stock, you will receive them in time for gift-giving!

Until next time, have a wonderful holiday season.
