Ekonk Community Grange News for November 2016

By Sue Gray

  November 5, 2016 --

We are excited about the three new members we have added to our rolls and they are loaded with enthusiasm!

In November, we have our annual Turkey Supper slated for Saturday, November 19th, beginning at 5:00 p.m. The Community Grange Hall, handicapped accessible is located at 723 Ekonk Hill Road (State Rt. 49) in Sterling, CT. Adults $12.00 , children ages 12 and under $ 6.00 and preschoolers are always admitted for free. Folks are always encouraged to bring non-perishable food items for distribution to needy families. For each item brought , the person gets a chance on a gift certificate to the popular Ekonk Hill Turkey Farm, 227 Ekonk Hill Road in Sterling.

Ekonk Community Grange will hold its annual Christmas Bazaar at the hall on Saturday, December 3rd from 11-3. There is always a nice variety of vendors as well as great food in the Grange kitchen! Anyone with questions on this event, or inquiring about a vendor spot, call Verna Cole at 860-564-2388.

We voted to replace our present windows with new, more energy efficient windows. This will be completed before time to start the furnace. We donated $ 100.00 to Oneco Volunteer Fire Department and $100.00 to Sterling Volunteer Fire Department. Both Departments graced our Fair with their presence as well an enthralled the children with their trucks!

In February, we voted to host the National Grange Master’s Conference at our hall, providing a place for their meetings as well as serving two suppers, two lunches and one breakfast. We voted to have new Ekonk Community Grange t-shirts custom printed for both Subordinate and Junior members. We received a beautiful plaque from the Connecticut FFA in appreciation for our outstanding support of their programs. It will be proudly mounted on a wall in the Grange hall.
